Is the Amazon call about an unauthorised order a scam?
Yes. Amazon will never ask you for a security code over the phone.
Arrives by Phone call. Pretends to be: Amazon.

How to spot it
This is Amazon. We stopped 1an unauthorised order for an iPhone on your account. To cancel it, 2please read me the code we have sent you.
Example: rebuilt from Which?, September 2026. We blacked out the dark parts.
- An order you never made
- A request to read out a code
- Other signs to watch for
- "Press 1" to speak to someone
- Pressure to act now
How it works
A call, often a recorded voice, says there is a problem with your Amazon account or an order. You are told to press 1, or the caller sounds like a real person. They send you a code, to your phone or WhatsApp, and ask you to read it out. That code lets them into your account, or your WhatsApp. Some then ask you to move money to a "safe account".
What to do
Hang up. Open the Amazon app or website yourself and look at your orders.
If you gave a code, change your Amazon password. If you lost money, call your bank on 159.
If you have lost money, tell your bank now and report it to Report Fraud (reportfraud.police.uk or 0300 123 2040) with your screenshots; in Scotland, call Police Scotland on 101. If someone is coming to your home to collect money or cards, call 999.
